When changing a record's status, the UI displays the new status before the required fields are completed, even though the status change has not taken effect.
The required field by status warning does not make this pending state clear enough — The grey box does not stand out.
Also, when using a fixed workflow, the original transition button is removed. This can make it unclear how to complete the change or could make a user assume the transition occurred successfully.
Users may believe they have changed a record's status when it remains unchanged.
Users may lose confidence in the displayed status and spend extra time checking whether the transition is complete.
Keep displaying the current status until all fields required for the new status are populated and the transition is confirmed.
Display a clearer warning next to the status explaining that required fields prevent the change. Use distinct warning colours to make it more noticeable
If using a fixed workflow, continue to display the transition buttons so users know the status change has not occurred. These can be greyed out and a tooltip added to explain that they cannot be used until required fields have been captured
