Make the AI search a collapsible side panel (instead of a full-page), similar to the Firefox/Brave assistant, so users keep navigation context while searching.

What is the challenge?

When users perform a search, the current AI search experience replaces the main content area and removes the navigation tree. This disrupts the user flow and makes it harder to navigate or reference related documentation while searching.

What is the impact?

Users lose their navigation context and place in the documentation, making it less efficient to explore results, iterate on follow-up questions, or quickly reference related topics. This leads to a disjointed and less intuitive user experience.

Describe your idea

Implement the AI search as an expandable/collapsible panel on the right side of the screen, rather than as a full-page overlay.

  • When a user searches, the panel should slide out next to the documentation/navigation tree, which remains visible and usable.

  • Users can review search results, click links, and interact with AI suggestions without losing their place or the ability to browse documentation.

  • This approach matches the assistant panel experience in modern browsers like Firefox and Brave, offering a smoother and more efficient workflow.

  • Attached mockup GIF and video demonstrate the proposed panel behavior and inspiration.
