Add Date Insertion Shortcuts in Documents

What is the challenge?

While recent updates have improved shortcut functionality, there is still no quick way to insert dates into a document without manually typing them. This is a feature I frequently used in Notion, where typing commands like /today, /yesterday, or /date would automatically insert the corresponding date.

What is the impact?

The lack of this feature slows down the writing process and reduces the overall user experience. Adding dates manually is less efficient and breaks the flow of writing, especially in time-sensitive or structured documentation.

Describe your idea

Extend the existing shortcut system (triggered by /) to support date-related commands. For example:

  • /today → inserts the current date

  • /yesterday → inserts the previous day’s date

  • /date → opens a date picker or allows custom date input

This would align with user expectations from similar tools and significantly enhance usability.
