Enhancing Attachment Link Insertion in Documents

What is the challenge?

When working on a document that is long or requires scrolling, the attachment toolbar remains fixed at the bottom. This makes it difficult or impossible to insert a link to an attachment in sections of the document that are far above the toolbar, especially when the desired insertion point is not visible on screen at the same time as the toolbar.

What is the impact?

This limitation disrupts workflow and reduces efficiency. Users are unable to easily insert attachment links where needed, particularly in longer documents. This can lead to frustration, workarounds, or incomplete documentation.

Describe your idea

  • Option 1: Make the attachment toolbar dynamic so it follows the user as they scroll through the document (e.g., a floating or sticky toolbar).

  • Option 2: Allow users to drag and drop or otherwise move an attachment link to any location in the document after it has been inserted.

  • Option 3: Provide a context menu or shortcut that allows inserting an attachment link directly at the cursor position, regardless of toolbar visibility.

  • Attach files
  • Aha!
