Merge custom roles

What is the challenge?

Multiple custom roles have been created over time, and users have been linked to different custom roles, so there is no consistency. The goal is to standardize on one custom role that applies for all users. There are thousands of users, and no way to merge custom roles, or update custom roles of users in bulk/via csv.

What is the impact?

A time-consuming clean-up exercise:

• Update the most commonly used custom role to be the standard.

• Manually go through each user and update their custom roles to use the standard. Note that this must be updated per workspace.

• Once all the users have been updated, delete the old custom roles

Describe your idea

Support merging an "old" custom role into a "new" custom role.

This should work similarly to the behaviour of merging custom fields:

• On every user account, all references to the "old" custom role should be updated to use the "new" custom role

• The "old" custom role should no longer exist
